The Power of Anchoring

Have you ever noticed how listening to a particular piece of music can often "take you back" to some previous experience and generate a particular emotional response in you. Or perhaps you've tasted some dish that immediately takes you back to some foreign holiday you've been on. Or maybe there is a particular garden smell that takes you right back into your childhood.
All of these are instances of what we call "Anchoring" in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). Some of the achors we experience in our lives are functional in supporting us in the achievement of our outcomes, others operate in ways that appear to undermine us. For example, "Whenever I enter that room and see all faces, I get very nervous" Or, "Whenever I hear his voice I get so angry".
This process of anchoring offers considerable opportunities for state management. It means that you can set anchors for yourself that will trigger positive states in you, when you need them during the most challenging times.

As an NLP practitioner I have been using anchors for myself and others since last 10 years.
